March 30 - April 2

I would like to say THANK YOU to the fourth grade students and parents for the baby shower and generous gifts. This group has been an absolute blessing and you went above and beyond to make me feel special!!! We can't wait to share pictures of our little guy!!!

***Mari Grace's parents will be providing pizza and cupcakes for her BIRTHDAY Wednesday(4/1).  All students will is a drink with no caffeine.

***We will be going to Caroline Senn's grandparent's farm Thursday for an Easter party.  We will be leaving the school around 10:00 and returning before dismissal.  Sheree will provide hot dogs and ribs for lunch.  We need drivers and a few extra sided items.  Sheree also needs a few parents to help her hide eggs at the farm around 9:00.  Students will need to bring at least 12 eggs (any kind) Wednesday.  We need 2 fruit trays,  1 cooler of bottled water, sweets, plain chips with dips, a bag of cut up apples with caramel dip, and a bag of washed grapes.  Please email us if you can drive, provide food, or hide eggs.

AR started over Monday(3/16).  I have given students their new goals. Please encourage your child to read so that we don't get bogged down at the end. It will cut off on May 8.

***The SGA is holding a fundraiser for the Troy Animal Rescue Project.  They are collecting items and/or money to help care for unwanted and abused animals.  They need most anything, towels, blankets, linens (can be old), toys, puppy pads, litter boxes, litter, water hoses, puppy or kitty food, dog or cat food, dog shampoo, nail clippers, etc.  Bring any items or money to me by April 10.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

***Our recycling contest will be starting before we know it! 4th grade is responsible for collecting cans. Please start saving anything you have now to bring in the week of April 13-17. They will be picked up by 8:30 on April 17. The grade with the most will get a PaRtY!!!

***We are pleased to announce that we will have a school-wide "Student of the Month" recognition award for each class. This student must display positive behavior, show their best work, good citizenship, and be friendly and courteous, enthusiastic, and responsible. The teacher will submit her choice each month and an award certificate will be given. The child's name will also go in the "hat" for a chance to win lunch off campus with Mrs. Baggett and Mrs. Garrett. The student chosen in our class this month was Brooklyn Fountain. Congrats Brooklyn!!!

May 12 - May 16

***Your child will bring home two folders Monday (5/12).  One will contain Mrs. Buchanan's work for the week and the other Mrs. Barron's work.  Please look over the stapled papers, sign the front page, and return the signed papers and folders Tuesday morning(5/13).  

***Tuesday, May 13, the lunchroom will only be serving box lunches.  They will contain a sandwich, chips, piece of fruit, a cookie and a bottle of water.  You can choose ham and cheese or turkey and cheese. The cost is $5.22.  We had to turn in the order this morning.  Please ask your child if they ordered, if not please make sure they bring their lunch.

***We will have field day this Wednesday, May 14th, from 8:00 to 11:00.  Please have your child dressed appropriately for this event.  They will need to wear tennis shoes. They should come to school dressed in what they are wearing for field day. There will be drinks for sale if you would like to send money.

***The Powder Puff game has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at 1:00.   
Your child can bring a drink or water to the game. They might want to bring a towel to sit on as well.  There will be drinks for sale if you would like to send money.

Every grade at PLAS is invited to participate in the talent show.  Students may plan a one-person act or a group presentation. 
The focus for the show is on talent.  This will not be a competitive event; rather, it will be an opportunity for students to share their strengths. 
Some examples of appropriate activities are:  gymnastics, athletic routines/dance, magic acts, martial arts, stand-up comedy, singing, skits, or instrumental performances. 
The talent show will take place in the Cafetorium on Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 pm.  Admission is $5 and PLAS students will be $3. 
Forms are available in the front office.

GROUNDWATER FESTIVAL

***Parents please e-mail or send us a note if you are willing to get the 4th grade end of the year party plans together for both classes. It would be great if we had a parent from each room to work together and get other parents to help.  The OFFICE has to know BY APRIL 30th what the class is planning.  Thanks so much for your help in advance. :)

***We will attend the Groundwater Festival at Troy University on Wednesday, April 30th. We will need to leave around 9:40, so we can gather at the Trojan Fountain for a group picture at 10:00.Afterwards the students, parents, and teachers will dismiss to go across the street to the Claudia Crosby Theater for the Awards Ceremony. After the program, students, parents, and teachers will dismiss to the Math/Science Complex to begin the activities.  We will finish around 12:00 and go to Zaxby's for lunch. Please make sure your child has enough money for lunch. 



***We will begin the recycling competition tomorrow for the city of Troy's "Clean and Green Week". Fourth grade will be collecting plastic bottles. Please save all the bottles you have and send them to school in plastic sacks or garbage bags. We will put them in our green recycling bags at school.

April 17 - PTO will be having their Movie under the Stars on   Thursday, April 17. The movie will be Madagascar. The gates will open at 6:45 pm and the movie will begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $1 through the office. Bring your own chairs and blankets. Concessions will be sold. Thank you as always for supporting our school and your children.


April 22 -  K4-8th grade beauty pageant.  A form was sent home with your child.

**Due to the bad weather this morning the SAT testing days have been moved to Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Please make sure your child eats a good breakfast and gets a good nights sleep.  They need to bring their break each day because we will not leave the room to go to break we eat in the room. They will also need #2 pencils.  Thanks. :)

GROUNDWATER POSTER CONTEST

Fourth grade has been asked to participate in the annual poster contest for the Pike County Groundwater Festival. We will attend this festival on April 30th and the theme is
"DIG DEEPER... Mysteries in the soil". In class today we discussed the importance of healthy soil and all of the things it provides. Students started to sketch their idea today. Students have also been given a poster board that meets the size requirements. The theme for this year "DIG DEEPER" must appear on the poster. A form has been attached to the back and it must be filled out to participate in the contest. Posters are due back to school on Monday morning, April 4, 2013!! ***The fourth grade will be taking a field trip to the Capitol on March 20, 2014. We have tours planned as well as a few special activities. We will be carpooling to Montgomery and will need for parents to volunteer as chaperones.  Please email Mrs. Buchanan or Mrs. Barron if you would like to be a chaperone for this trip and let us know how many you can hold in your vehicle. We are looking forward to a great day! :) We will post our plans Monday(3/17).

March 10 - March 14

We will have lunch at school on Friday, March 14, 2014. Pepi will be providing box lunches for $4.50. The box will contain a sandwich (ham and cheese or turkey and cheese), chips, a piece of fruit, a cookie, and a bottle of water. We need to know tomorrow morning if your child would like one of these lunches and what kind of sandwich. THANKS! :) 

The fourth grade will be taking a field trip to the Capitol on March 20, 2014. We have tours planned as well as a few special activities. We will be carpooling to Montgomery and will need for parents to volunteer as chaperones.  Please email Mrs. Buchanan or Mrs. Barron if you would like to be a chaperone for this trip and let us know how many you can hold in your vehicle. ***Monday, March 3, is Read Across America Day.  Alabama's First Lady, Mrs. Dianne Bentley will read to K-4 through 4th Grade students.


***The Yearbook Staff will be selling yearbooks Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 14th.  Cost will be $50.00.

***Friday March 14th marks the end of the 3rd Nine weeks of the school year.

***REMINDER!!!! Spring Break is March 24th-28th. ENJOY!!!

Your child will bring home two papers about the Groundwater Festival today (2/26). One form is a t-shirt order form and the shirts are provided for free! The other form is a talent release and is required for the group picture! We will attend the Groundwater Festival at Troy University on April, 30, 2014! ***Kacie Bell's parents will treat us to pizza and cookie cake tomorrow(2/18) for her BIRTHDAY!!!  Students will need to bring a drink. :)

We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday (1/14) at 11:20! Students need a shoebox to collect their cards on Friday. If your child would like a plastic box please send $1 by Wednesday and Mrs. Marilee Hussey will purchase the boxes for us. The fourth grade will celebrate together so we will have a total of 26 students.

***Jump Rope for Heart
It's time to Jump Rope for Heart!! Information about Jump Rope for Heart is in your child's backpack. Money is due February 14th. They will jump February 18-21.

Don’t forget, send in your money and form for the Father Daughter Dance!
The dance will be Friday, February 21st from 6-8 pm!
The girls and Dads will have a FABULOUS time!
There will be dinner, a lead out, and photos taken by Townhouse Photography! (included in the price)
Money is due no later than February 14th!
The dance is open to K4-4th grade! J $30 per family


Folders will be sent home next Monday(2/10) due to the weather last week.

School is cancelled for Thursday, January 30, 2013. The quizzes scheduled for Thursday will be moved to Friday (language, history, and science). Reading and Spelling test will be moved to Monday, February 3, 2014.   Stay safe and warm!!

***Your child will bring home two folders Monday (1/27).  One will contain Mrs. Buchanan's work for the week and the other Mrs. Barron's work.  Please look over the stapled papers, sign the front page, and return the signed papers and folders Thursday morning(1/30).

***Due to the possibility of inclement weather and subsequent hazardous driving conditions, there will be no school on Tuesday, January 28, or Wednesday, January 29.
We will have our Science Quiz, History Vocabulary Quiz, and Language Quiz Thursday.  Also, we will write our spelling words in ABC order in class that day.  Friday's schedule will include the Spelling Test, Reading Story Test, and Reading Vocabulary Quiz.

***I still have a few students who need to have report cards signed and returned by Thursday(1/30).

***Cookie Dough orders are due January, 30th.
