***A permission slip was sent home Wednesday(5/13) for the field trip, and the class party.  This must be turned in by Friday(5/15).

***May 22 - Last Day Of 4th Grade! We will dismiss at 10:00.

After the last tour we will leave for Eastchase.  Drivers will pick where their group will eat(just like our Dothan trip).  Everyone try to leave from eating around 1:30, so we will arrive back at school around 2:30. All your child will need is $10-12 for lunch. We will dress nice but comfortable on our trip. Also, we will not shop at the gift shops due to our schedule of tours. PLEASE send a note or email (even if you have already done so earlier) to us if you would like drive. THANKS :)

Hi everyone! My name is Kim Garrrett (Stewart). I will be filling in for Mrs. Buchanan until the end of the year while she is on maternity leave. I was a teacher here at PLAS from 2011-2014, and I am excited to spend these last few weeks with your children! I will continue to use Mrs. Buchanan's blog and email. Here are a few reminders...


  1. Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6th are school holidays. Enjoy the long weekend!
  2. Friday, April 10th - 11:50 dismissal due to the Prom.
  3. Groundwater posters were sent home on Wednesday for your child to complete and return by Tuesday(4/7).  They will be picked up Tuesday morning for judging.  We will attend the Groundwater Festival at Troy University April, 29th.
  4. AR started over Monday(3/16).  The students have their new goals. Please encourage your child to read so that we don't get bogged down at the end. AR will end May 8.
  5. The SGA is holding a fundraiser for the Troy Animal Rescue Project.  They are collecting items and/or money to help care for unwanted and abused animals.  They need most anything, towels, blankets, linens (can be old), toys, puppy pads, litter boxes, litter, water hoses, puppy or kitty food, dog or cat food, dog shampoo, nail clippers, etc.  Bring any items or money to me by April 10.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
  6. Our recycling contest will be starting before we know it! 4th grade is responsible for collecting cans. Please start saving anything you have now to bring in the week of April 13-17. They will be picked up by 8:30 on April 17. The grade with the most will get a PaRtY!!!

March 30 - April 2

I would like to say THANK YOU to the fourth grade students and parents for the baby shower and generous gifts. This group has been an absolute blessing and you went above and beyond to make me feel special!!! We can't wait to share pictures of our little guy!!!

***Mari Grace's parents will be providing pizza and cupcakes for her BIRTHDAY Wednesday(4/1).  All students will is a drink with no caffeine.

***We will be going to Caroline Senn's grandparent's farm Thursday for an Easter party.  We will be leaving the school around 10:00 and returning before dismissal.  Sheree will provide hot dogs and ribs for lunch.  We need drivers and a few extra sided items.  Sheree also needs a few parents to help her hide eggs at the farm around 9:00.  Students will need to bring at least 12 eggs (any kind) Wednesday.  We need 2 fruit trays,  1 cooler of bottled water, sweets, plain chips with dips, a bag of cut up apples with caramel dip, and a bag of washed grapes.  Please email us if you can drive, provide food, or hide eggs.

***We are pleased to announce that we will have a school-wide "Student of the Month" recognition award for each class. This student must display positive behavior, show their best work, good citizenship, and be friendly and courteous, enthusiastic, and responsible. The teacher will submit her choice each month and an award certificate will be given. The child's name will also go in the "hat" for a chance to win lunch off campus with Mrs. Baggett and Mrs. Garrett. The student chosen in our class this month was Brooklyn Fountain. Congrats Brooklyn!!!

May 12 - May 16

***Your child will bring home two folders Monday (5/12).  One will contain Mrs. Buchanan's work for the week and the other Mrs. Barron's work.  Please look over the stapled papers, sign the front page, and return the signed papers and folders Tuesday morning(5/13).  

***Tuesday, May 13, the lunchroom will only be serving box lunches.  They will contain a sandwich, chips, piece of fruit, a cookie and a bottle of water.  You can choose ham and cheese or turkey and cheese. The cost is $5.22.  We had to turn in the order this morning.  Please ask your child if they ordered, if not please make sure they bring their lunch.

***We will have field day this Wednesday, May 14th, from 8:00 to 11:00.  Please have your child dressed appropriately for this event.  They will need to wear tennis shoes. They should come to school dressed in what they are wearing for field day. There will be drinks for sale if you would like to send money.

***The Powder Puff game has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th at 1:00.   
Your child can bring a drink or water to the game. They might want to bring a towel to sit on as well.  There will be drinks for sale if you would like to send money.

Every grade at PLAS is invited to participate in the talent show.  Students may plan a one-person act or a group presentation. 
The focus for the show is on talent.  This will not be a competitive event; rather, it will be an opportunity for students to share their strengths. 
Some examples of appropriate activities are:  gymnastics, athletic routines/dance, magic acts, martial arts, stand-up comedy, singing, skits, or instrumental performances. 
The talent show will take place in the Cafetorium on Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 pm.  Admission is $5 and PLAS students will be $3. 
Forms are available in the front office.

GROUNDWATER FESTIVAL

***Parents please e-mail or send us a note if you are willing to get the 4th grade end of the year party plans together for both classes. It would be great if we had a parent from each room to work together and get other parents to help.  The OFFICE has to know BY APRIL 30th what the class is planning.  Thanks so much for your help in advance. :)

***We will attend the Groundwater Festival at Troy University on Wednesday, April 30th. We will need to leave around 9:40, so we can gather at the Trojan Fountain for a group picture at 10:00.Afterwards the students, parents, and teachers will dismiss to go across the street to the Claudia Crosby Theater for the Awards Ceremony. After the program, students, parents, and teachers will dismiss to the Math/Science Complex to begin the activities.  We will finish around 12:00 and go to Zaxby's for lunch. Please make sure your child has enough money for lunch. 



***We will begin the recycling competition tomorrow for the city of Troy's "Clean and Green Week". Fourth grade will be collecting plastic bottles. Please save all the bottles you have and send them to school in plastic sacks or garbage bags. We will put them in our green recycling bags at school.
